Marvin Dykhuis and Marshall Hood are giving a songwriting and guitar playing workshop! Marvin’s a great guy who can play and sing anything and has been doing it for a long time on a lot of stages. Marshall came to town with his high school band and didn’t leave. He writes grooving songs and plays amazing guitar.

About Marvin

Marvin Dykhuis was born in Racine, WI. Coming from a musical family, he learned early how to play many instruments as well as sing. He played music professionally for many years in Wisconsin with Mark Paffrath and Marvin and the Dogs.

In 1985 he moved to Austin, Texas, and began another musical journey as a singer, songwriter, band leader, record producer, session musician, frontman, and sideman with many Texas touring acts.

Marvin has played for two US presidents ( and other world leaders) and toured throughout the United States and the World. He has worked with artists Tish Hinojosa, Jimmy LaFave, Marcia Ball, Jerry Jeff Walker. Michael Martin Murphy, and Shelley King...just to name a few.

In 2026, Marvin is working on his 3rd CD with his band, Grouchy Like
Riley
. (Danny Britt and Chip Dolan)

About Marshall

If the last name Hood sounds familiar to you – that’s because it probably is. The Hood legacy thus far includes Champ Hood, original member of the many-would-say-genius Uncle Walt’s Band, and long-time guitarist for Lyle Lovett, and Warren Hood, ace fiddler and composer for The Waybacks, The Bodeans, and his own band, Warren Hood and the Goods.

Those are big shoes to fill, indeed, but Marshall Hood, the youngest link in the Hood chain, rounds out a family of wildly talented musicians with effortless guitar work and a knack for crafting the most charming of songs – so reminiscent of his Uncle Champ it’s sometimes hard to tell the difference. Much like the famed Uncle Walt’s Band, Marshall’s songs can’t be pigeonholed into any one category – they transcend genre. But with a keen lyrical sense and subtly catchy melodies to match, it won’t matter what you call it, you’ll be too busy humming along.
